Solid Run Plaster Cornices
In addition to general plastering, I specialise in running traditional solid plaster cornices in-situ, to match any design. Here are some examples of solid run cornices which I have repaired, to match the existing cornice, or run from new. Some solid run cornices are a simple design, while others include decorative mouldings and enrichments, or traditional patterns such as “egg and dart”.

This is an example of a solid plaster cornice, run between the ceiling and the top of the wall. A simple solid run cornice design usually consists of parallel, undulating lines within the plaster.

It’s also possible to have decorative plaster mouldings which are run on the ceiling. If the ceiling falls down and needs to be replaced or repaired, new plaster mouldings can be run to match the existing design.

It requires a highly skilled artisan to run a solid plaster cornice in-situ. These decorative plaster cornices are traditionally found in Victorian or Georgian houses.

This is an example of a simple solid run cornice with a corbel moulding, which can also be made to match an existing corbel.

Composite designs incorporate decorative mouldings within the traditional solid run plaster cornice. In this example, the plaster decorations include roses, grapes, leaves and an egg and dart design.

If the cornice becomes damaged, first the cornice must be re-run, then the decorative mouldings are re-cast in plaster and replaced, to match the existing design.

This composite solid run cornice also incorporates decorative mouldings, miniature corbels and an egg and dart pattern within the design.
